Zac’s Club Riccall opened in September 2017, and gathered pace rapidly from day 1. We extended our service early on from 3 afternoons a week to now offering full sessions Monday to Friday, breakfast runs from 7.30-9.00am every morning, and After School Club from 3.15-6.15pm each afternoon (During the Coronavirus outbreak our afternoon session times are slightly revised to 3.00 – 6.00pm each afternoon in order to allow for the school staggered pick up times). We also open for Holiday Club on selected days during the holidays from 8.00am until 5.30pm. During lockdown 3.0 from 5th January 2021, it was unfortunately necessary to temporarily suspend sessions at Zac’s Club Riccall, as we were only allowed to take Keyworker and Vulnerable children at this time, and there were insufficient numbers to be able to continue on this basis. We are running a limited holiday club service however at February Half Term 2021, with full details on our Holiday Club Page.
The team at Riccall is headed up by Manager Hannah Jaskowski, who has had experience as a Nursery Manager, and also worked for Young Discoverers Nursery as Room Supervisor during the first few years that they opened their doors. It’s been a delight to welcome Hannah back to the team, and to see her flourish in getting to know the children at Riccall again, some of whom she cared for as babies. Hannah has worked hard during her career to extend her qualifications through to degree level, and has also gained her Early Years Teacher Status.
Assisting Hannah are Deputy Manager Erika Kirsch-Maskill, and Playworkers Tiffany Lumley and Jane Young. Erika also works at our Escrick Club, and has a wealth of experience working with children and young people. She studied for her Early Years Educator qualification alongside working for us through York Learning, and qualified in 2019. She is now studying for her Level 5 qualification. Tiff is Level 3 qualified in childcare, and has lots of experience with younger children. She works in the F2 class at Riccall School as well as Zac’s Club, and she brings fun, enthusiasm with her to the setting. Jane has been with Zac’s Club (and prior to that Young Discoverers Before & After School Club) since 2010 and and brings lots of care and attention to the children she works with.
All of our staff have been trained in Safeguarding, Prevent, Food Safety, and Paediatric First Aid to level 2 which is renewed every 3 years. Additional training and measures have been taken in response to the Covid 19 outbreak, and the risk assessment accessed through this page is regularly updated to reflect the latest government guidelines.
Zac’s Club Riccall had their first Ofsted inspection in June 2019, and were rated ‘Good’. This was a great achievement, and the team were particularly praised for their support of the Early Years Curriculum in following on from learning in school into the activities in the setting. Following the Coronavirus outbreak and initial lockdown of schools, we successfully returned to school on Tuesday 8th September 2020 during which time additional measures to ensure that the Club remained as safe as possible were implemented. We are keeping up to date with all of the latest government, local authority and school guidance and procedures, and our risk assessment can be viewed in full from the link on this page. We continue to make regular adjustments and updates to this document and our practice as necessary and appropriate. Unfortunately a further lockdown was implemented on 5th January 2021, and whilst it was possible to open to Keyworker and Vulnerable children, the numbers were not enough for us to operate on, and reluctantly we are currently temporarily closed at Zac’s Club Riccall. Our Zac’s Club Escrick site however remains partially open to Keyworker and Vulnerable children only.
