Our Breakfast & After School Club at Escrick was our very first Young Discoverers setting, and opened on 4th November 2008 with just 4 children, 2 of whom were the Director’s own children. It has been fabulous to see the Club grow from there to having up to 38 children on their busiest sessions.
Our relationship with the school has also developed over this time, and we are extremely proud to be working in partnership to ensure that the facility meets the needs of parents, teachers, governors, and most importantly the children themselves.
Andrew Newton is Manager at the Club, and has undertaken this role since 2012.He holds a Level 3 Diploma from the Children and Young People’s Workforce, which he undertook whilst working for Young Discoverers at our Nursery. The Club changed to Zac’s Club in September 2018, and we had our first Ofsted Inspection under this name on 3rd December 2019, and received a rating of ‘Met’ – the highest grade achievable under the new marking grades for Out of School Clubs introduced on 1st September 2019. The report praises the setting for its links with school, and can be accessed in full here: https://reports.ofsted.gov.uk/provider/16/EY551783
Andrew works with Erika Kirsch-Maskill as his Deputy Manager, Jane Young and Sharon Plumridge as his team of Playworkers, and Angel Costello as Apprentice. Erika has a wealth of experience working with children and young people and is currently working to complete her level 5 childcare qualification whilst working with us at both our Escrick and Riccall Clubs. Jane has been at the Club since 2010, gained her level 3 Childcare qualification whilst working for Young Discoverers, and has developed a strong relationship with the children. Sharon works in the Club and also as a cook at nearby Young Discoverers Nursery, and often knows many of the children prior to them coming to Zac’s Club, and has great ideas for play and learning. Angel has already demonstrated a natural affinity working with children, and is committed to a career in childcare. She is due to complete her Apprenticeship in 2021.
All staff hold current Paediatric First Aid Certificates, and Food Safety Certificates, and also undertake other regular trainings relevant to the role including the Safeguarding of Children and Prevent Training.
The setting operates 7.30am -9.00am each morning and 3.15pm -6.15pm each afternoon during term time (Whilst the Coronavirus restrictions are in place, our afternoon session times are slightly changed and operate between 3.00 and 6.00pm to allow for the staggered finish times at school.School term dates are available by using the following link: http://www.escrickprimaryschool.co.uk/term-dates/The school website also contains lots of useful information regarding the teaching and learning at Escrick School.Bookings for Zac’s Club can be made by phoning the Club on 07721 062404, emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by using the online booking system, which can be accessed through the link on this page.
Following the Coronavirus outbreak, we safely returned at Zac’s Club on the 8th September, and have been fully operational ever since. Our groups are operating in bubbles of not more than 15 children each, and we continue to keep up to date with the latest government, local authority and school guidance to ensure our operations are as safe as they possibly can be. Our risk assessment for Covid can be viewed from the link on this page, and we continue to make updates and amendments as required.
